SAN DIEGO – An officer-involved shooting occurred Saturday morning in the Encanto area of San Diego, according to police.
The shooting was reported at 1:17 a.m. in the 6500 block of Brooklyn Avenue, said San Diego police Officer David Stafford.
10News has learned that the incident began as a police pursuit, with officers trying to pull over a silver car.
Detectives say the driver of the car refused to stop and attempted to make a U-turn and that three officers got out of their patrol cars and approached it. Police said the officers asked the driver to exit his vehicle, but instead, the driver accelerated toward the officers and they fired on him.
The driver was shot and died from his injuries at the scene. A woman who was a passenger in the car was also shot, but she was taken to an area hospital where she is expected to survive her injuries.
It was unclear if any officers were injured.
