ST. LOUIS (AP) — Police in St. Louis are investigating the death of a man in police custody.
The St. Louis Post-Dispatch reported that police said that about midnight Saturday, officers saw a man in a vehicle who they believed fit the description of a recent robbery suspect.
When the officers approached, the man fled.
Police chased the man on foot and tried to subdue him. Police said officers tased the suspect when he fought back and that he was carrying what appeared to be a narcotic.
Shortly after he was taken into custody, the suspect became unresponsive and was taken to a hospital where he was pronounced dead.
The cause of death has not been determined.
St. Louis police have identified the man as Kerwin Harris, 39, of St. Louis.
